The 70:20:10 Learning Model
The 70:20:10 learning model was created in the 1980’s by three researchers and authors, Morgan McCall, Michael M. Lombardo and Robert A. Eichinger, who were working with the Centre of Creative Leadership and researching the key developmental experiences of successful managers. Their research tells us that only 10% of learning comes from formal interventions such as structured courses and programmes. 20% of comes from social learning and developing through others, and 70% comes from learning through experience.
The 70:20:10 learning model is considered to be of greatest value when seeking to maximise the effectiveness of learning and development programmes through other activities and inputs. The model continues to be widely employed by organisations throughout the world.
